TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

The term of TOEFL is the abreviation of Test of English as a Foreign Language. This test is to evaluate the ability of english to the non active-speakers to continue to high school or university or scholarship. Generaly, there are three kinds of TOEFL test, are : International TOEFL, Institutional Testing Program (ITP) and TOEFL Prediction. To have the International TOEFL usually using computer and it called Computer Based TOEFL (CBT), while the Institutional Testing Program (ITP) is the writting, test and it called Paper Based TOEFL (PBT). But the prediction TOEFL is not the one of the TOEFL that be published by the institution. To those who want to have the graduation of S1, S2, S3 must be able to pass the test of TOEFL. The qualified offices need the TOEFL test to have the best workers or the other word we may say it is the obligation.

The metode of TOEFL is the test of the ability, are : Testing Point Explanatory Model through this method there also material test and through listening, comprehension, structure and written expression and reading comprehension. TOEFL has three points, they are listening comprehension, structure and listening expression and reading comprehension. Listening comprehension is the ability test of the one to understand about the conversation and spelling of English. But written expression is the part of it that to test of the one’s ability. About the introduction and understanding of the structure and written of English. The reading comprehension test is the point to see how far in understanding of the reading test of the topic. In TOEFL, no single passing score generally because the score is decided by the institution it self. But some of the institutions determine of score 550 or more as the qualification, but some of them also open the class of TOEFL approach 500.

There are also the changing of TOEFL, in format or difficulity and it can be found in listening comprehension. It complete to have the TOEFL test the student should be follow the informations. The term of test of written English and means essay. Testing point of the TOEFL is the important point. Testing point is the main point of the test TOEFL and is the important part in doing the exercises of TOEFL. The practices test in testing point can be done by any section. Eventhough the question of the TOEFL test still new in every test but the testing points are same. The understanding of testing point is really help you to organize your study time and help you to solve about the differences the kind of test. For example when we face to the test at least you have to know what kind of the testing point, vocabularies, the verbs or the others. When you do the exercises test you may test your own ability to understand the strategies you use in answering the test.

The backwards is the one of the strategy in doing the test in the section of listening comprehension. The procedure of listening comprehension section in TOEFL, firstly you will listen the question from cassets or computer and then notice for choice of four answers and then notice of four choice of the answer and how to answer it. It means you will listen earlier then you find the choice the answer that you think correct. But in the strategy of the backwards way quite the contrary, when before listening the cassets the participants reading the answers the choices and then determine the answer that they thing correct. Belows are the steps in strategy of the backwards way : switch on the tape recorder or computer then listen the instruction. When you listen the instruction, be concentrate, divert attention the other matter, like open the text book or seeing the exercises.

When you do the test keep pay attention to the choices the answer provided. And use your second time to notice the keyword, like : name, situation or the place where the conversation is being done. Keep pay attention to the repeat of the keywords because it will help you to understand when you are listening the cassets. When the casset is being played you may not pay attention to the reading and keep concentrate. How to face the TOEFL preparation make sure your time test positively in doing the test, prayer, bringing the registration card, ID card, pencil and other tools. Come earlier before the test start, make sure your time is enough then in your trip to the test to the place, finding the room or other preparations, relax, doing deep breath and follow the next instruction given. By doing and following the suggestions above you may have the succesfullness in doing the TOEFL.
